Teaching & Curriculum Development
Sim has approximately 18 years’ experience teaching and developing curriculum for adults in university, government institute, language school and workplace settings. This includes discipline-specific EAP (Education, Engineering, Finance, Business, Banking, IT, and Accounting), Professional/Business English, IELTS preparation, and General English.
Prior to that, she developed corporate and government training programs in fields ranging from Telecommunications to Trade Finance and Accounting.
Teacher Training & Professional Development
Sim's teacher-training experience includes leading teams that designed and evaluated professional development programs for Malaysian English language teachers (primary and secondary). This involved a high level of government reporting, forecasting and project management to ensure quality accreditation. It also required great flexibility to meet the changing needs and demands of the public education sector within that country.
In other former roles, Sim has written and delivered Master level programs in Language Teaching Methodologies, Syllabus Design as well as materials for teacher-training programs for Chinese, Korean and Japanese English language teachers. She also designed and delivered an academic literacy program for Arab graduates retraining as elementary school teachers.
Sim's PhD (2004, University of NSW, Australia currently ranked at 85) was a classroom-based TESOL study which investigated intercultural communication/negotiation using English, approaches to adult learning, and materials development.
Sim also has a Graduate Diploma in TESOL (22 day practicum) and a CELTA Certificate (A grade pass).
